Rivals for Catan App Reviews

It is a great game. The only problem its when you want to continue your game it crashes. Fox that please and I will give 5 star.

I am enjoying it so far and look forward to seeing where they will go with this. Design could use a little tweaking here and there. It would be much appreciated if they could put a speed option, I find the AIs painfully slow.

So far I am enjoying the game. I hadnt had the chance to play the card game before so I was excited to see it come out on the iPad. I havent played it long enough to give much in depth feedback but there is one thing that bothered me right from the start. Why do the resource tiles rotate when I get a resource or spend a resource. The resource cards have beautiful artwork on them and they look bad when the artwork is flipped upside down. The rotation of the card doesnt give any useful information at a glance and even if you could tell how many of a resource that you have by looking at it, the number is in the corner and it is much quicker to just look at that. The only useful feedback that it provides is that the movement of the tile draws your attention to the fact that a resource is being added to that tile. There are a lot of other ways that you could animate the tile to convey that information that wouldnt mess with the display of the artwork, like having the card glow, or having the card gently grow and then recede again for example. The card rotation seems like an interesting idea that should have been rejected because ultimately there are better ways to convey the same information without compromising the look of the tiles.

Rivals through and through, lots of fun, and great variation in the AI. Ive had my game bug a few times, typically when Im close to the end of the game, my board lights up red, and the opponents blue, and I cant make any moves but to return to the home screen. When I attempt to reload my game, via continue game, it loads for a moment then quits out of the app. A patch for this would be appreciated, if you can even figure out whats wrong anyway

Great way to pass some time. Challenging AI, but the game needs some tweaking. Eg pestering me about the tutorial ever time I play, at the end of the game having statistics on die rolls, total game resources for each player would be nice additions.

This game keeps me thinking... I play over and over. There are some app issues- game errors in the middle of a game and you have to stat over - should have a difficultly level. Other wise i cant put it down.

Now that I figured out how to play the game I am enjoying it but the repeated freezing of it is rather annoying as you have to restart your game to deal with the freeze. Also, the tutorial/help options arent that helpful because they only tell you which cards are in the game and only give you a FEW of the game rules. How about some overall directions on how to play the game? Unfortunately this app needs alot of tweaking for it to be great!

Enjoy playing the game however, I get an error when I try and continue a game previously started. I have a iPhone 4S, and hoping for a bug fix.

This game is so awesome, I was introd to the board version and feared that I would not like playing against the computer as much well no prob there. Just as fun ad exciting!

Single player is great. Multiplayer needs tweaks. Need an option to save a game with a Game center friend so you can come back to it if you have to leave your iPad. Its a long enough game if playing with kids around you have to walk away for a few mins. When the iPad goes to sleep you lose all game me progress and are kicked out. Very frustrating. Have had this happen in every multiplayer game so far

We had to give up trying to play as too many bugs. It will be a great game when fixed. Need to be able to pause game, pick cards at same time in stacks, not have to check mark every time other player takes a turn. Rule books should be accessible in play with the card explanations for easier playability.

I agree, a lot of bugs and errors that need fixing, but its good to play otherwise. There should definitely be an accessible rule book with ALL the game rules and cards, and knowing the a particular card needs a city first would be helpful to know when you first pick it too. I dont like that I cant save a game, whether its single or multiplayer. I would like to know my total number of resources to help me keep in check so I dont get robbed by the brigands. The games does freeze up sometimes, and on multiplayer mode, it usually switches the players character pictures for some reason.

Great game. Would be even better if the expansion packs were available on iOS for this game.

Crashes all the time

This game has the potential to be huge, unfortunately the developer hasnt any vision for making it huge, theyre approach to multiplayer is non-existent, as it is impossible to play a multiplayer game (uses gamecenter automatch - blah) dont waste your money or time.

I own the original card game, and was largely disappointed at how much of the game was needlessly changed when rebranded as "Rivals." The original game plays so well and made sense. This version makes little sense and is difficult to play as the focus is more on the art than the gameplay aspects of the cards. Also, theres a lot less cards in the basic game (and didnt recall the 7 pt victory condition being mentioned). I bought the first bundle of expansion cards for the original card game and it was so creative and fun! Where is that in Rivals? For the record, Ive not played the physical version of Rivals. I cant say how much is different between the rebranded game and this digital version. PLEASE, for the love of Catan, fix the visuals so we can actually see costs and benefits better. (size/contrast) Thank you Klaus and Guido for keeping Catan alive. I still love the games.

I have tried at least ten games of the Era of Gold theme, on both ipad and iPhone, and have not been able to complete a single one. Crash every time, then "unable to load saved game". Otherwise this is a great game. No problems with the basic game. Instead of five stars, it only gets two.

Great came but crashes often when you try to continue a previously started game. On mobile devices this is a key feature and needs to be fix. All you get is an error message saying the game cannot be loaded when you try and continue.

But....crash when we play 2 players game. The game is fun....if we could complete a session.
